Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is results from inability of thyroid gland to produce sufficient amount of thyroid hormone.The most common cause of hypothyroidism is low lavel of thyroid hormone with various etiology and manifestation.Untreated hypothyroidism increases morbidity and mortality.Iodine dificiency is the most common cause of hypothyroidism worldwide.

CAUSES OF HYPOTHYROIDISM
*Autoimmune Thyroiditis (Hashimoto's Disease)- This is the most common cause in developed countries. The immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, leading to inflammation and reduced thyroid function.
*Thyroid Surgery or Radioactive Iodine Treatment-Procedures that affect the thyroid can sometimes result in reduced hormone production.
*Radiation Therapy- Radiation treatment, particularly around the neck, can damage the thyroid and lead to hypothyroidism.
*Certain Medications- Some medications, like lithium and amiodarone, can affect thyroid function.
*Iodine Deficiency-
While rare in developed countries due to iodized salt, insufficient iodine intake can lead to hypothyroidism.
*Congenital- Hypothyroidism: Some individuals are born with an underactive thyroid due to genetic factors.
